Population

The Fayetteville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 292,368 in 1970 to 357,122 in 2010. That was an increase of 22.1 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 17,865 in 2000 to 20,496 in 2010. That was an increase of 14.7 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 5.3 percent to 5.7 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 5.6 percent from 2000 to 2010.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the major factor adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary factor adding population in all periods.
